The Breast Pump of My Dreams

a few years ago, i don't think i could have imagined running this errand.

kimmy and i went down to Baby Depot this evening to register for baby stuff. we found some really great things, including a baby swing, stroller/car seat, co-sleeper, play pen (which they call play yards now -- lame), and my personal favorite, the breast pump.

the first six months seem to have gone by really slowly, but at the same time, i can't believe we're less than 90 days from meeting our little girl.

we're heading down to san diego tomorrow afternoon to visit the kantors. jesse, deanna, and jacob will be our hosts. saturday night, we're going to the giants/padres game -- IN YOUR FACE LIVIE!

Fun With Pictures

reason #792 that my blog is better than ian's: more photos. downside? most people probably won't care about the photos i choose to post. to you i say: you think you're too good for this blog? go read ian's. anyway, this is cali on my lap in her customary position, as kimmy and i watch the giants game. Posted by Hello

this is richard. here he is enjoying his time in the office. he says that, when he's a multi-millionaire, he'll use this picture as the "before" shot. when richard calls me on my cell phone, a picture of samir and michael from Office Space appears on my screen. stay strong R.I., 5:30 is always just around the corner. Posted by Hello

Wine Reco #1

when we lived in florida, i decided to make the best of what was around me and take up golf. for someone who enjoys the game, there's no better place. every block seems to have a golf course, and there are many different levels of courses with varying degrees of difficulty and for varying budgets.

now that we've moved to the middle of wine country, with easily a hundred wineries within 15 minutes of our house, it's just seemed natural to take up wine. so, goodbye silver bullet, hello much-more-expensive-but-also-more-rewarding-beverage.

for the last few months i've made an effort to try all different varietals, tons of local wineries, in an attempt to educate myself and find out what i like. i'm about as far from an expert as you can get, but i thought it would be fun to share some of my favorites here on ian ... yadda yadda yadda ... sucks.com.

if you ever want to go out and try a bottle that i recommend, i'd be curious to hear your thoughts on it.

Wine Recommendation #1: 2004 Ledson Sauvignon Blanc

i usually prefer reds, but this one totally blew me away. it's aged in both oak and stainless steel -- with skins left on for one day. the aroma is a very strong mix of different citrus ... to me it seemed a lot like orange and grapefruit. their write-up says that there's a hint of passionfruit in the finish, but i don't think i know what passionfruit tastes like. i think what's striking about this wine is how refreshing it is ... leaves your mouth feeling clean and cool like toothpaste, only you get drunk too. bottom line is i regret not buying a case last time we were at the winery. if you can find this in the store or online, BUY IT.

We're So Lame

last week we went to sutter medical center in santa rosa for an expectant parents presentation and tour of the labor and delivery unit. we didn't exactly get the warm fuzzies ... but then again neither of us really like hospitals. it didn't help that we went up the wrong flight of stairs and had to walk by open-door hospital rooms where we could see near-dead people on full display.

anyway, tonight we were supposed to go for a similar tour at memorial hospital, our other option in the area. we're both suffering from laziness due to pregnancy, though, and decided at the last minute to wait until next week. we're such hopeless homebodies. oh well.

i went to the gym today. it would be a lot easier if my muscles were a little bigger to begin with. i'm so sore after my first couple of weeks back that it's hard to lift my arm to brush my teeth. good thing i work at home and kimmy (probably) wouldn't leave me due to my bad breath.

maybe i'll just get some 'roids. yeah, that's a plan. tell you what, though, i could beat you at arm wrestling. if you're a girl. and in really bad shape. maybe.

i changed the blog settings so you can make comments to my posts. sorry, i'm new at this.

Fox is Evil

yeah, a real newsflash, right?

sorry, but i had to bring this up. we turn on the simpsons this evening, and before the episode is a disclaimer: this episode discusses same sex marriages. parental discretion is advised.

i'm sure i don't need to point out the many layers of irony.

Tomko is a Useless Ass-Monkey

after the first couple of innings of today's giants/ A's game, that's the title i came up with for my blog entry.

the next few innings inspired a new title: Tomko, Christiansen, Alou, Sanchez, Snow, Niekro, Durham, Ellison, Matheny, Walker, Munter, Feliz, Rueter, Lowry, and Linden Are Useless Ass-Monkeys (Cruz is excused because he got a hit). has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?

16-0 was the final score. the A's had 24 hits, the giants ... one.

let me examine my feelings. angry and violent, embarassed and ashamed, disillusioned and impotent. reminds me of how i felt on november 3, 2004. maybe not that bad, but close.

here's a good article that really sums things up.

go giants.

Welcome to the Machine

The Most Important Blog Ever

i've been telling Ian (that's ian livie, my scottish brother in arms) for months that i'd put up my own blog. you've gotta admit, the concept "ian livie's blog sucks" is some of the most compelling stuff out there.

it took me a while, because i was so busy reading posts on the nutty professor's blog -- they come out at least once every two weeks -- that there just wasn't enough time in the day.

anyhow, here it is. enjoy.
