Wine Reco #1

when we lived in florida, i decided to make the best of what was around me and take up golf. for someone who enjoys the game, there's no better place. every block seems to have a golf course, and there are many different levels of courses with varying degrees of difficulty and for varying budgets.

now that we've moved to the middle of wine country, with easily a hundred wineries within 15 minutes of our house, it's just seemed natural to take up wine. so, goodbye silver bullet, hello much-more-expensive-but-also-more-rewarding-beverage.

for the last few months i've made an effort to try all different varietals, tons of local wineries, in an attempt to educate myself and find out what i like. i'm about as far from an expert as you can get, but i thought it would be fun to share some of my favorites here on ian ... yadda yadda yadda ... sucks.com.

if you ever want to go out and try a bottle that i recommend, i'd be curious to hear your thoughts on it.

Wine Recommendation #1: 2004 Ledson Sauvignon Blanc

i usually prefer reds, but this one totally blew me away. it's aged in both oak and stainless steel -- with skins left on for one day. the aroma is a very strong mix of different citrus ... to me it seemed a lot like orange and grapefruit. their write-up says that there's a hint of passionfruit in the finish, but i don't think i know what passionfruit tastes like. i think what's striking about this wine is how refreshing it is ... leaves your mouth feeling clean and cool like toothpaste, only you get drunk too. bottom line is i regret not buying a case last time we were at the winery. if you can find this in the store or online, BUY IT.
