My Daughter the Basketball
i can't believe that we're less than three weeks away from having a little girl. wow. i think the reality might finally be setting in. in a matter of days we're going to be responsible for a life. we're going to be the key shapers of her worldview, her self-confidence. we're going to be in charge of making sure she's happy, healthy, and good to others. i know this is nothing new. this has been the responsibility of parents since there have been sperm and ova ... since adam and eve or bobo and jingles (depending on your creationist vs. evolutionary leanings). i only hope that we can do the best by her.
in related news, i've been doing a whole lot of thinking about how i'm going to make sure that hannah never wants for anything. a key part of that is financial. every business decision i make from now on is not a decision that effects just me, or just me and kim. there is a lot of opportunity staring me in the face right now ... some day i'll tell you all about it ... and i hope like hell that i can make the right choices in the coming weeks and months.
on a far more straightforward note, barry bonds will at least pinch hit in the series coming up against the cubs in san francisco. i don't care what anyone says about 'roids or his ego or anything else. it's just plain entertaining to watch him play. despite all the controversy and supposition, he's still the best home run hitter to ever play the game, and probably one of the top 5 most dominant figures in the history of professional sports ... and i feel lucky to have been able to see him play as much as i have ... and to have the chance to see more.
how do you like that? a little baby talk, business talk, and baseball talk -- all in one post. beat that ian ... and have fun at the game tonight ... bastard.

No hoops being scored before the 20th....right???? Even though you are my very favorite son in law, you've got to give the Bonds thing up!! When it comes to outfielders and hitters....Johnny Damon IS for real and without the "roids"!! Last time I checked I think his avg. was around 324.....Plus, he's so cute!
i will not say anything bad about johnny damon. he's one of the most fun to watch in baseball today ... plus he looks like one of those cavemen from the geico commercials.
that being said ... barry bonds is in a class all by himself. there's absolutely no comparison with anyone else in baseball today -- the closest in talent level and perhaps ultimate "legend" status being albert pujols.
I hate to say I agree with Ben about Barry, but in some ways I do. He is a star. I have not missed him, nor am I nearly as excited to see him come back as Ben. However, I know when I see him slam that first HR out of the park it will make me very happy... for the GIANTS! Not for Barry.
I know you may still hold a grudge against him for beating out Adam V. for MVP a few years ago, but 'roids and 'tude aside... he is a star. (not NEARLY as cute as Johnny) O
h... and I truly hope the rumors I have heard about Johnny on roids is untrue!!!
I find it hard to put "roids" aside because I think that gave him the edge that others didn't choose to take. Rumors ARE rumors but if the worst case scenario took place with J.D., I'd feel that same way....sad, but still the same way. We all have strengths and when we use them, that's superior. When we have them but choose to "add" to them with something like "roids", that's far from superior. I wish the Giants luck, that's for sure, but I definitely wouldn't want to base that luck on Bonds. I don't hold a grudge against him but I do think he screwed up big time and screwed a lot of fans along the way!!! THAT is sad.
who cares about baseball - hannah will be here in two and a half weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
